The Cobras Soccer team was established in 1994 with the under the leadership and unique strategies of the late Francisco Moncayo. For many of the players this was their first time playing on a competitive level, never the less the Cobras won their first tournament ever played. From then the Cobras went on to win countless tournaments and games. They traveled all over the California, Nevada, Oregon, and even to parts of Europe, and to this day continues a rain of victory in a semi-professional San Francisco league, even after the passing of the Cobras coach, Francisco.

During the 10 years of play with the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) the Cobras obtained ten 1st place League Championship titles establishing themselves as the most dominant team in CYSA.
In 1994 the Cobras participated in nine tournaments they obtained 1st place trophies in each one of the tournaments.
In 1995 the Cobras participated in ten tournaments winning eight 1st places and two 2nd place trophies.
In 1996 the Cobras attended twelve tournaments including the famous Wells Fargo Shootout in Tucson, Arizona. The Cobras took 1st in ten tournaments and 2nd in two. The Wells Fargo Shootout included competitive teams from all over the United States. In the championship match the Cobras were defeated 3-1 by a team from Colorado. At this same tournament the Cobras won 2nd in the juggling contest.
In 1997 the Cobras attended seven tournaments winning four and coming in 2nd and 3rd in the others.
In 1998 the Cobras participated in the Presidents Day tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. One again teams from all over the country were participants. The Cobras took 1st place and had an article published in the Northeast Phoenix Times.
In 1999 the Cobras were part of the best tournament in the western side of the US. The Las Vegas Tournament. They encountered, premier teams and State Cup winners from Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Colorado. The Cobras came home with a second place trophy and were then ranked with the top 20 teams in Western United States.
In 1999 few selected Cobras were given the opportunity to play with the National Soccer Academy (NSA), and travel to Europe. They participated in several tournaments in Finland, Denmark, and Sweden. In Sweden they played, but did not place in what was one of the most popular and famous tournaments in Europe, The Gothia Cup. The championship game was played in the Ullevi Stadium seating and selling nearly 20,000 tickets.
During the years 2000 to 2004 the team maintain its superior style of play winning many more tournaments. The Cobras participated in the San Francisco Cup twice, winning 1st place both times. During this time the team also won the Carson City Shootout and Reno Cup for 3 consecutive years.
Throughout the history of the team, the Cobras succeeded in being 3 time quarterfinalists, 1 time semifinalists, and 1 time finalists in the CYSA State Cup, finally winning 1st in 2004.

For most of their soccer career, the Cobras were ranked 3rd in all of CYSA North. In 2004 they were ranked # 1 in CYSA and 19th in the country.
Francisco Moncayo then decided to enroll the team in one of the oldest and most prestigious leagues in Northern California, a league that he himself once played in, The San Francisco Soccer Futbol League (SFSFL), founded in 1902. Here the Cobras once again dominated the 3rd Division in 2005 with a 17-0-2 record, moving them up to the 2nd Division. In the 2nd Division the team again came in 1st with a record of 17-3-3. Undoubtedly the Cobras domitated and came in first. They were then moved up to the Major Division in 2008, a division known for incorporating business marketing and promoting with Semi-professional play.
Since then the Cobras have merged with the Heritage Soccer Club, one that the late Francisco Moncayo helped build, with the intention of expanding and exposing the community of youth players to a new more competitive level of play. |
