The San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL) was founded in 1902. The SFSFL is one of the oldest semi-professional and amateur league in the United States.  Since its inception, the SFSFL has developed into one of the most cosmopolitan leagues in the country and produced memorable teams, players, personalities, and national champions.   Originally known as the California Football Association (CFA), the SFSFL was finally launched in early 1902, and comprised of the Independents, Albion Rovers, Vampires, Thistle F.C. and the American-British Rifles. A year later, on September 4, 1903 delegates from the Vampires, American-British Rifles, French A.C., Independents, Albion Rovers, Oakland Hornets, Pickwicks, and Occidentals, met at the Spreckles Building in San Francisco to form a larger association to run the sport throughout northern California.

The SFSFL is run by the Board of Directors, several of which are volunteers. The Board meets every other Monday during the season.

There is an Annual General Meeting that is held no later than the third week in December. At the meeting, the Executive Board submits for approval of the membership the following:

  • An annual financial statement audited by a duly licensed firm or by a committee appointed by the President, and the operational budget the following year,
  • Recommendations for admissions or rejections of applicants, and
  • Recommendations for division of funds accruing from the financial operations.

Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays in the mornings and afternoons.

Teams can expect to play over 20 games within a season. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Board of Directors needs assistance with grant writing. This will help to offset the rising costs of procuring fields for the league. If you would like to help, please contact Aram Kardzair: treasurer@sfsfl.com

TURF FIELDS, SUPPORT NEED - time sensitive

Hi All,

Last Tuesday, Sup. Mirkarimi introduced a resolution to stop synthetic turf installations in SF.

The Chronicle just posted this item on their website and it will likely run in the paper today.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/cityinsider/index -Synthetic turf debate won't die

I was wondering if several of you could post some positive comments today to the blog so when people read the paper online, people who are supportive of the new fields are saying good things?

In general, Vikings does not support the proposal of Sup. Mirkarimi and we would like to show though notes of support to this blog that our families/users are favorable about the synthetic  fields and that the new fields have increased the capacity of fields available to all the users and the fields are all weather, rain or shine, and the playing surface is significant improved, etc. Families can express whatever they feel.

The League has worked very hard over the past four years to partner and support the effort of the City Fields Foundation to improve the quality of the fields and bring more fields into circulation so that our kids have fields to play on.

Your kids play on these new fields in their school leagues, club leagues, etc.

Feel free to pass on the rally of support to other contacts you  might have.  Please write a short post.

Thank you,

Shelli Meneghetti
